On our way to Saltspring Island we stopped in Chemainus.

Near the visitor centre - someone has decided that the statue of J.R.MacMillan shouldn't have cold ears during the winter.

The sign on this tree stump says
"Western Red Cedar (Thuja plicata)
Age-500 yrs./Height over 200 ft./width 11 ft.
This giant saved from a land clearing off Marie Farms south of Chemainus, is a tribute to the history and heritage of this town.
Fell about 80 yrs ago, this tree would have framed at least 2 houses.
They were chopped down this high up using spring boards to stand on to get above the pitchy swell butt."

Looking back at downtown Crofton from the ferry dock. That's our red car at the front of lane 2.

More of Crofton.

(30:03:2019)

This tug brought in a raft of logs to the mill site beside us.

(30:03:2019)
And we're off! Heading to Saltspring Is.

Arriving at Vesuvius. You don't realize how tall those douglas fir trees are until you are driving underneath them!

(30:03:2019)
Looking over the marina in downtown Ganges from the old Saltspring Hotel. The yellow umbrellas shade the restaurant patio.

From here we attended a memorial for our friend Ingrid Boesel who passed away in December. This would have been her 76th birthday and she would have loved the beautiful spring day.

(30:03:2019)

Back on the ferry heading home. The GPS says we are at -1 m elevation, but during the trip that number varied from -20 m to +27 m!!

(30:03:2019)
After a stop and Heather and Steve's for supper we continued on home. There was a nice sunset just beyond Parksville.
