| Double Weave Runners and PlacematsClick image for enlargement. | ||||
| | The first table runner - to fit the length of the dining room table - is about half done. It has a huck spot background the same as the runner sent in the exchange. (05:10:2015) | |||
| Nine days later - the first runner is finished and the second is underway. It will be identical, except shorter - to fit the width of the table. (14:10:2015) | | |||
| | After about two weeks there has been a big change. The runners were cut off, then the warp was re-sleyed from 16 ends per inch to 20 ends per inch. This reduced the width from 20 to 16 inches so the finished width should be about right for the width of a place mat. After tying on again, weaving is underway. The first place mat has a different border pattern than the runners and the background is all-over huck lace. (01:11:2015) | |||
| Another two weeks and the fourth (and last) placemat is about half finished. (17:11:2015) | | |||
|  | This warp cannot be advanced any further! (28:11:2015) | |||
| At the end I squeezed in a short trial of checkerboard pattern - every "half block" of lace moves to the alternate side of the cloth. Weaving stopped just four inches from the reed. (28:11:2015) | | |||
| | Everything is off the loom and has been "wet finished" and "hard pressed." The four place mats fit our table well and the checkered piece has been cut in half to make two hot pads. (02:12:2015) | |||
| Here is a closer look at the hot pads, showing both sides. (02:12:2015) | | |||
| | The long runners will fill the center of the table and act as placemats at the ends. (02:12:2015) | |||
| A close up of the runners. (02:12:2015) |  | |||
| | And another look at the placemats. Note that each one has been given a different border pattern by varying the treadling while weaving. They are thicker, and feel sturdier, than the runners. (02:12:2015) | |||
