A Lacy challenge!
March to June

I bought some special yarn at the conference in Prince George last year with the intention of making a vest. I found a pretty pattern in a 1995 Knitters Magazine. It looked complex enough that I actually made a gauge swatch!

About the time that I started knitting all in-person meetings stopped so I took a picture of my progress to send to the knitting group. Of course I had help!

The pattern is Leaves of Lace by Peg Gorman.

It has seven different lace patterns in each pattern row, most with ten row repeats, so I made this card to get them all in one place instead of spread over two pages of the magazine. I have some pink transparent removable tape that I can move to mark the row that I'm on.

Two weeks later I'm still not up to the armholes. Those long pattern rows take about half an hour each as I have to stop and count stitches at the end of each section to be sure I included all of the yarn overs to make holes.

Our group started to have Zoom meetings so I didn't need photos to show off my progress. So here we are about six weeks later - all finished, washed and pinned out for blocking. With Shadow's assistance of course.

Except that I wasn't really finished. Once wet it stretched out a LOT longer than it was on the needles and I realized that the armholes reached nearly to my waist. Also the neck band wanted to ruffle. Back to the drawing board.

As it was knit from the bottom up, I undid the shoulder seams, carefully removed 14 rows of knitting on the back and fronts, rejoined the shoulders and did the back neck band on smaller needles.

Two weeks later here we are again, out of the wash and ready for blocking. Shadow showed up the minute the blocking mats came out.

All pinned out again - the proportions look better.

The yarn is 75 percent merino, 20 percent nylon, 5 percent Stellina hand-dyed by Yoriko Oki from Richmond, BC. The colour was called Indigo Constellation. It has a bit of a sparkle.

What do you mean - I'm not supposed to walk on it??

(15:06:2020)
And why have you put the box over that nice wire I want to play with?

The solution turned out to be turning on the fan on the bedside table to help it dry. He didn't like the moving air.

(15:06:2020)

Now it's finished - here's the back view.

(17:06:2020)
And here it is from the front. Neither view shows that there is also a lacy pattern under the arms.

(17:06:2020)

Time to try it on.

(17:06:2020)
And this time it fits!

Only one minor problem - what to make with the leftover yarn - the vest used only half of what I bought for it!
