Spring has finally arrived

The Bridal Veil spirea is starting to blossom.

We have only a few tulips - most protected by wire cages - but this one is hiding beneath a Japanese maple where the deer can't get to it.

The first cherry blossoms! Our tree is a late variety and looking up at the tree there were only a handful of blossoms open in the morning. By evening of the same day nearly a third of the tree was in bloom.

These fancy tulips, planted by the former owners, first bloomed last year - they are protected from the deer by a cage.

The Pieris is almost finished blooming and now new red leaves are appearing.

This back yard tulip determinedly blooms every year in an iris bed with poor soil, beside the cedar hedge.
