Febuary Snow Storms
Febuary 3rd to 4th

Rain took away all of the earlier snow and our front yard looked like the left photo from January 17th until the snow started again February 3rd. The right photo is after shoveling about four inches from the driveway on the 3rd. Another six inches was removed on the morning of the 4th. And we thought that we wouldn't need a snow blower in Courtenay!

On the left - Sheila's front yard rain gauge at 8:30 AM on the 3rd after about an hour of snow. And on the right at about the same time on the 4th! It will be hard to tell how much "rain" this is.

Left - We thought that the dogwood was pretty with the accumulated snow on the 3rd. By the next morning the snow had more than doubled.

The Anna's hummingbird that lives in our yard was happy to find a feeder still available. I'm not sure if the white on his undercarriage is feathers or snow!

(03:02:2017)
There is a newspaper box and a rhododendron under that snow!

The view down the street.

The bird feeder has a plastic shield to keep rain (and rats) away. The Juncos and Chickadees were happy to get in under the roof. But one of them got a shock when it tried to land on top and sent all of the snow flying!

The tress in our back yard were hanging low with the snow.

(04:02:2017)
Every branch and twig of a big leaf maple was piled high.

(04:02:2017)

We barbecue all year round - there was a shoveling job needed on the deck too.

(04:02:2017)
Snow build up on the deck railing and the bird feeders.

(04:02:2017)

Snow in the branches, both down low..

(04:02:2017)
and up high in the back yard forest.

(04:02:2017)

The big cherry tree in the front yard outlined in snow. It won't be blooming for a while.

(04:02:2017)

Another five inches fell over night. Here are birds sheltering in their feeders on the morning of the 5th!

(05:02:2017)

The barbecue was all cleaned off and used on the 4th. The dip in the snow on the railing shows the new snow.

(05:02:2017)

About another three inches of snow fell on the 6th. Then on the 7th the sun came out for a few hours! The snow was thick on the trees in the back yard.

(07:02:2017)
Not a good idea to sit on this bench today.

(07:02:2017)

The sunshine caused some melting on the clematis beside the back deck.

(08:02:2017)
The snow started up again around supper time on the 8th - by 11 PM we already had about six inches of new snow.

(08:02:2017)

By morning there was over a foot. We thought that this tree had a lot of snow on the 4th!

(09:02:2017)
The garden arch shows the accumulation.

Railings everywhere are covered. This is our next door neighbour's deck.

(09:02:2017)
There will be no barbecuing today.
