Raised Bed Raspberry Defence

Our raised bed, planted with asparagus, is less than two feet from the property line. On the other side is a raspberry patch. They come up all through the raised bed. A four inch rubber edge did nothing to keep the runners out of our yard.

So we purchased about 20 feet of scrap eave trough material. Allan pop riveted two pieces together.

The next challenge was to dig a trench to bury the metal barrier. That part of our back yard is full of "river rock."

The trench partly dug.

Still more work to do at this end too.

Several hours of digging later, it's ready for the metal to be buried. The old rubber edging was used for protection from the sharp metal edge.

Partly buried.

Buried, tamped and cleaned up! Hopefully raspberry roots are too shallow to get under the barrier. Now to get rid of those already there.

Looking from the other end. The next step is to add ground cloth and mulch to keep the weeds from re-growing.
