Gravenstein apple (from the back deck). This year we started 'training' it to keep it short. Gowning on a dwarf root it would not be a big size tree, but by using weight to pull the limbs over, and keeping water sprouts trimmed in the fall it should never get to be more that 6 feet tall. You can see the weights used. Plastic bags, with fine sand, tied to the limb with a glass cord that will not rot. This limb is protected from chafing by a wrap of old terry towel under the knot.

This is hard to see but - First is new sky light, over laundry room. Now it is a low-E Argon filled, tempered glass! Second is the black line to the left of the top of the sky light. That is a ridge vent for the attic. The steps to improve the efficiency of our heat pump system is to improve the insulation in the attic. But before that can happen we have to address the stupidity that occurred when the last roof was put on. The vents were mounted below the ridge line where they couldn't be 'seen from the street'. We had them removed, and this ridge vent installed, running 75 feet over both the house and garage.
One small note - I don't have pictures of the work being done from the roof. Due to old age, bad ankles (that make me stumble at times) and a big fear of fetching up on the ground after a fall I stayed off the roof.

Last year Allan moved a small clump of a decorative grass that has leaves that are almost black. It's still a very small clump, but it has blossomed!

Another dahlia is blooming.

(06:07:2018)
The globe hydrangea blossoms are fully open now too. Most of them are blue.
