These are two of our big leaf maples which turn this golden colour and then drop 10 or 15 bags of 'after lawn mower mulching' leaves

(10:10:2021)

The first day we have had no rain/drizzle/downpour and morning sun.

This is our bronze maple which over the next week or so will turn spectacular red.

(10:10:2021)(10:10:2021)

Taken a little later in the day, and the sun at a higher angle and a little more to the side.
Not much change!

(11:10:2021)

Again the sun angle shifted, but more golden today than yesterday!

(11:10:2021)

Not so much change on this side of the yard, but soon!

(13:10:2021)

It is amazing how much change there is in the big leaf maples in two days!

(13:10:2021)

Not as much sun this morning, but still little change!

(14:10:2021)

Again not as much sun, and very little change!

(14:10:2021)

Starting to get a little colour today!

(15:10:2021)

They say we are in a 'atmospheric river' today, no good sunshine to light this one up.

(15:10:2021)

Colour is building quickly!

(16:10:2021)

The 'atmospheric river' gave us 19mm over night, and it looks like another 6mm or 7mm since this picture was taken.

(16:10:2021)

Every year we are amazed at the size of the Big Leaf Maple leaves!
These two were selected by the 40ish km/h winds last night and placed on the back deck.

(16:10:2021)

Get this guy up before it starts to turn colour!
It is a miniature leaf maple, that lives in our front yard.
It came from Kelowna in a 2 gallon pot, but was set out here about 3 years ago.
It would like to be about twice this size, but we keep it short of its full potential with yearly pruning.

(16:10:2021)

Redder every day

(17:10:2021)

Any day now it will be time to start picking them up.

(17:10:2021)

We have no rain (at the minute) and the limb I have been shooting has too much back light, so I switched to this view.

(18:10:2021)

Starting to drop leaves much more quickly than up to now.

(18:10:2021)

Not so much back light today.

(19:10:2021)

I switched lens to a telephoto for a closer look.

(19:10:2021)

We have had enough wind that even these later leaves have started to go on to their next job! (Make work raking)

(20:10:2021)

These guys are getting into the suicide thing real fast.

(20:10:2021)

These leaves are a little lower down on the tree and more sheltered, and a totally different colour.

(21:10:2021)

It has been windy yesterday, and we are loosing leaves faster. There are wind warnings for this afternoon, maybe some of these well go next door??

(21:10:2021)

The whole tree is now starting to turn from red to yellow.

(22:10:2021)

After several days of rain the Big Leaf maple is slowly fading to brown and has lost a lot of leaves.

(21:10:2021)

The leaves now carpet the lawn and getting thicker every day!

Apparently if one disturbs the Chickadees to take pictures you have to include a chickadee in the picture.

(24:10:2021)

This angle from the deck doesn't show how many of the leaves are already down.

We are hours away from what is being sold as the biggest storm ever in B.C. with the deepest low pressure ever. The current barometric pressure is 973.1 down from 990.31 at midnight!

(24:10:2021)

Well that is the end of the leaves on that branch! The "weather bomb" last night did a number on it!.

(25:10:2021)

The big leaf maple has lost most of it leaves over night as well.

There were predictions of barometric pressure as low as 974 over night, but the lowest we read was 976.07 at 11:50am.

(25:10:2021)

There are some leaves left, in the area shaded from the wind by the fir trees.

(25:10:2021)

The last of the bronze maple for this season.
