Falling leaves

Leaves in the morning sun. The cherry tree is really starting to drop leaves now.

The Japanese Maple is getting redder by the minute.

Two days later, after some wind, the yard is buried in leaves and the Japanese maple has turned yellow.

Did we say we had picked the "last" rose of summer? The Angle Face rose has two more buds!

The back yard is covered in leaves again - they've been removed three times!

Back at the beginning of October I reported that one of our snake plants had sprouted a stem that looked like it was going to bloom.

The stem shot up until it was as tall as some of the leaves, and buds formed along the sides. Nov 5th - one month from the day we first spotted it - blossoms started to open at the bottom of the stem. By the 9th they were open all the way to the top.

Here is a closer look at the blossoms. We discovered that they opened at night after the lights went out and closed again during the day. They have a distinct sweet smell.
