Our 'Before' pano's didn't include the 'dinning room' side of the kitchen, but this is where we got to with the cooking side. (20:06:2025) |
As usual we were so eager to get to work on emptying the china cabinet that we forgot to take a before picture. This is partway along in the process. (23:08:2025) |
After we got all the 'stuff' out of the top. (23:08:2025) |
And this is where it all ended up. Five two cubic foot moving boxes and one loose silver tea service. (23:08:2025) |
The second to last of the baseboard repair jobs. (The last one is under a desk in the computer room and not likely to happen any time soon) This house 'had' electric baseboard heating when we purchased it. After we installed the heat pump we started to remove the old heaters (leaving the wiring in place just in case). As we come to them, the baseboards have been 'patched up' (24:08:2025) |

The painter wants two separate areas to work in, so they have some place to go while the other space dries. In our case it is going to be the Laundry/garage entrance to the house. This is looking towards the garage. (24:08:2025) |
And this is looking back into the house from the garage. Little side notes here. First the plumbers are coming to remove the washer/dryer the day before the painters come. Second just behind the dryer there is the last of the electric baseboard heater thermostats to be removed and patched ready for painting. And of course all that shelving and table will have to be removed, and the holes filled. (24:08:2025) |
The contents of the laundry shelves moved to the spare bedroom. (26:08:2025) |
The bed has accumulated tools and everything from the tops of the kitchen cupboards and walls. (26:08:2025) |
Removing the laundry room shelves. (26:08:2025) |
The washer and dryer and some of the larger laundry items are now in the garage. Moving the washer and dryer was done by plumbers who arrived before 8:00 AM. (26:08:2025) |
Taking out the laundry sink. (26:08:2025) |
The sink ended up in the garage too. (26:08:2025) |
| ||||||
Recording the location of the wall brackets so they can go back on the studs in the same place. (26:08:2025) |
The dining room hutch now sits on the table and the buffet and bookcases have been moved away from the walls. (26:08:2025) |
There was room to squeeze in between the island and table to eat breakfast. (27:08:2025) |
The front door is going to be painted red - here's what it's looked like for the past 13 years. (27:08:2025) |
| ||||||
The painters covered everything to protect it from the dust of sanding patches on the Gyproc before painting. (27:08:2025) |
Painting over the fridge is tricky! (27:08:2025) |
Undercoat above the rest of the cupboards too. (27:08:2025) |
The whole dining room wall is white now. (27:08:2025) |
Drying the patch where the old baseboard heat thermostat was removed from the laundry room. (27:08:2025) |
Getting started with the undercoat in the laundry room. (27:08:2025) |
Now it's all white! (27:08:2025) |
The kitchen already looks brighter. (27:08:2025) |
First coat of "alabaster" done now. (27:08:2025) |
First coat of gray on the door. (27:08:2025) |
The gray undercoat will make the red much easier to do and with fewer coats. (27:08:2025) |
This is how you eat lunch when the entire kitchen is wrapped in plastic. (27:08:2025) |
The end of day one! This pano was taken at approximately 3:00PM from the patio doorway, kitchen on the left, dining room on the right.. Kitchen is now drying till morning, Laundry room is ready for first coat of white, and the front door is primered in gray. (27:08:2025) |
Day 2 - The garage door is being painted gray because the standard cream looked terrible with white walls. (28:08:2025) |
At long last the front door is turning red to match the adjacent wall. (28:08:2025) |
And now - after 7 coats of red paint - it's finished! (28:08:2025) |
Garage door and laundry room walls are finished too. Day 2 took only half a day! (28:08:2025) |
Almost done! Looking from the living room. Painting is complete, and pictures re-hung, but the china cabinet is still empty and there are still things to hang up in the kitchen window and patio door. (30:08:2025) |
Looking in from the patio doorway. There are some items to put back on top of the kitchen cabinets also. (30:08:2025) |
Plants, stained glass, and other "hangy thingy's" back in the kitchen window.! (30:08:2025) |
Table is in place! (28:08:2025) |
The next day after three coats of Tung Oil! (31:08:2025) |
The last step - washing everything, polishing the silver and putting everything back in the hutch! (28:08:2025) |
