This is where we started the clean up!
The Ivy, labelled as Vancouver Island's number 1 invasive species, was planted here 4 years ago after much trauma.

The inside view! On the left is our number 1 place to grow cucumbers. So we'll try to not disturb it. The trauma to get here involved the natural gas line that runs right alongside the right hand post, and a visit from the gas company repair crew.

After we get the plant (notice that is now a plant and not the ivy) off the vertical part this is what is left across the top.

And of course it is intertwined with the beloved source of cucumbers!

The vertical stems remaining were up to 1.5 inches across, and too big for the hand cutters. The oscillating saw cut them off nicely but it took 3 battery recharges to do the job.

And the inside! With minimal damage to the cucumber! (we hope)

After two days of removing tops it's time to tackle the remaining root!

Again, cuts were made with the oscillating saw to keep away from the dreaded gas line!
