This is one of those "careful what you're getting into" things. This guy (who is about 6 feet tall including pot) started out as a sprout in the corner of a flower bed a couple of years ago. No it's not that we didn't know what we were getting into when we put it in its first pot..

Known as a 'Dawn Redwood' or 'Metasequoia glyptostroboides' this is the source of the potted version above. 18 to 25 feet wide and 30 to 75 feet high, this one is in the yard next door. It hasn't changed much in the 8 years we have been here so we assume in to full grown.

The peony by the shop door now has several huge blossoms.

(02:06:2021)

The 'kitty litter tree' has been leaning more and more to the north east this spring. Likely because of the weight of the sand bags on that side. This should hold it more upright.

(02:06:2021)
The small rhododendron in the back yard is blooming now although most of its blossoms are hidden at the back.

(02:06:2021)

A few of the irises in the back yard are blooming too. They need to be staked up!

(02:06:2021)
Two large blossoms are open on the white peony in the front yard. There are MANY buds waiting to come.

(02:06:2021)

A small bulb that we don't remember planting has come into flower!

(02:06:2021)
The Siberian irises are starting to bloom.

(02:06:2021)

The irises in the front yard are taller and fancier than those in back.

(02:06:2021)
There is a yellow one too.

(02:06:2021)

Nearby the climbing Hot Cocoa rose has some blossoms.

(02:06:2021)
The Neptune rose is highly scented.

(02:06:2021)

The small yellow one that started all this blooming has several blossoms and many buds.

(02:06:2021)
The bracts on the Japanese dogwood are larger now.

(02:06:2021)

The Jacob's coat climber has more blossoms than we've ever seen on it.

(02:06:2021)
And beside it, the clematis is happy too.

(02:06:2021)

One of the benefits of removing the greenhouse, was that years worth of 'odd' pipe fittings now had no home. These were spare parts from changes and modifications to the structure that turned out to be dumb ideas or no longer needed. The green pipe here rings a peony to hold it up.

(05:06:2021)

Right next door to the peonies are a couple of steps leading from the upper level of the yard to the lower level. We have been dumping grass from the lawn mower in the trees back there and walking on the sloping ground with an ankle brace is painful and unstable.

(05:06:2021)

A rainy day rose! The Jacobs Coat climbing rose by our front door. These blossoms are so fragile that any wind does them damage after they come out, and they are so short lived.
