While taking the pictures of the humming bird heater below, these icicles caught attention.

Don't think there will be a BBQ to-night. (Or in the near future)

This heater was built a couple of years ago, to be able to keep the food outside at lower temperatures. It seemed to work well except that when the temperature was above zero centigrade it cooked the water out and left a sugar slurry. Other than that problem it worked well.

The answer to cooking the food is in this little thing. This is a Raspberry Pi W that reports temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure to our weather monitor software. We have a similar unit in the cold room that monitors indoor and outdoor temperature, keeping the room as close to 10oC by turning on and off a couple of ventilation fans. They both have low voltage relays that are turned on or off as needed. My weather proof housing seems to work well. Enough air space to keep the computer cool, water proof, with all holes sealed with hot glue.

The low voltage relay, control is solid state (no moving parts and weather resistant) which switches the 110 voltage for the light bulb in the heater.
