The first iris of the season.

The Foxgloves are starting to bloom too. I hear that the spots are made by fairies!

(10:06:2022)
They come in several colours.

(10:06:2022)

No lilies yet - but there are lots of buds.

(10:06:2022)
This is the first blossom to open on another small rhododendron in the back yard.

(10:06:2022)

The espaliated apple trees had no blossoms this year - but the columbines are blooming amongst their leaves.

(10:06:2022)
There will be peony blossoms soon too.

There is a long story about this guy!
First we have a big leaf maple tree in the yard that has a large crotch caused by some idiot having palliated it many years ago. The size of the crotch is such that it make a good place for raccoons to hide out during the day. And we see them nesting there on a regular basis. So far the coons have done little damage to us so we have ignored them. (Other than a few of weeks ago when I inadvertently trapped this guy.)
Now crows hate coons! No other way to say it. Apparently raccoons are one of the few animals that can get to where crows nests and have a liking for crow eggs! The result is that the crows harass the raccoons, diving at them, yelling at them, etc until the raccoons move on from the area of the crow nest.
It seems that this year we have both the crows and raccoons back and the air war has been loud.
I expect this guy has been in the habit of cleaning up the spilled bird seed from our deck and knows his way around, but the bird feeders have been shut down due to the avian flu in the area.

Add two days and most of the blossoms are open on this rhodo.

The planter by the patio has parsley and chives, and two recently planted cucumbers to replace the ones that were frozen.

(12:06:2022)
The bed beside the heat pump has lots of lettuce and herbs that have been growing happily in all the rain we've had. The wires protect the smaller ones from birds (and maybe the racoon) helping themselves.

(12:06:2022)

This side of the raised bed has more lettuce, peas and a tomato plant in the middle.

(12:06:2022)
From the other end - garlic and lots of radishes.

The back side of the raised bed has asparagus, which we have been eating frequently for about three weeks.

A closer look at the allium. Seeds forming for the first time. Wonder if we can get them to grow???
