The Ghost Maple and Leaf Season
November 19th and onward.

The small Ghost Maple is decorated with leaves from the large ornamental cherry tree above it.

Its pale variegated leaves sort of fade to brown this time of year.

(19:11:2022)
But they have a warm glow when the sun manages to appear.

(19:11:2022)
Up close they have a wild variety of patterns.

(19:11:2022)

Remember the cherry tree rain from last week?

(19:11:2022)

Well after a couple of hours with the leaf blower, rake and yard waste bags this is what you get.

(19:11:2022)
All bag'd up and ready for pickup on Thursday

Anyone know if reindeer eat cherry leaves?

I think this tree is up for a hair cut next spring. The spring blossoms were the cause of blocked gutters a couple of times this spring.
Ever notice that one only cleans blocked gutters WHILE it is raining?

(19:11:2022)
A little overnight rain and we're almost back to where this started!

(22:11:2022)
The espaliered apples were left to grow wild this summer, which may have been a dumb idea! But it's time to clean them put for winter.

(22:11:2022)
After 20 minutes with the cutters and this looks much more normal for this time of year.

(22:11:2022)
Our much pictured bronze maple has lost most of its leaves, so while we're here they will get cleaned up.

(22:11:2022)
The take so far! Two new bags and a can of apple limbs.

(22:11:2022)
Remove the leaves from the driveway (they are hard to clean up after being driven on) but that's enough for today!

(22:11:2022)
Jump ahead to the next morning

After about an hour of blowing and raking and picking up, five cans have been filled with leaves for a total of seven cans and six bags to put out this week.

(23:11:2022)
And once again the yard is - temporarily - green.

(23:11:2022)

But if you leave it alone for 2 hours, this is what happens.

(23:11:2022)

The miniature Japanese maple had a glimpse of sunshine this morning. It's thinking about turning orange. Of course this means that there will be more leaves to pick up soon.

(24:11:2021)

One tiny azalea blossom has persisted for about two weeks.

(24:11:2021)

Most of the leaves vanished from the Japanese dogwood in the wind yesterday, but a few remain.

(24:11:2021)

Another hour of blowing, raking, and bagging and the front grass is almost green again. The yard waste collectors will be faced with seven cans and nine bags now. And more at most of our neighbours!
