When we moved here 9 years ago we parked our motor home in this spot beside the driveway and Sheila's truck had to squeeze onto the far side of the driveway in front of the garage.
Since selling the motorhome in 2015 the truck has been parked here on the grass.
Last spring we made an appointment to have an actual driveway put in!
|
By this time of year the grass is mostly dried up and full of weeds.

This morning at 8 AM the truck moved next door so the driveway job could happen.

|
We don't want to damage the roots of the neighbours big Dawn Redwood tree, so the removal of the grass was done by hand.

Three strong young men heaved a lot of buckets of dirt into the truck.

It's getting flat and tidy.

Starting to put in the crushed rock.

Oops! The first load of crush wasn't enough. They got a coffee break while waiting for more to arrive.

Just about full.

The crush has to be dampened and tamped flat so the fines will hold it together.

|
It took two men to move the tamper from a truck to the ground. It went back on the truck via a ramp.

Almost finished.

Cleanup time. Blowing the cement side of the driveway clean created a dust storm!

A nice flat crushed rock driveway - all done in three hours.
