These are the 'new' bins, the city is going to start using on January 1. Currently moved out side the fence so the crew can come and pave where they will reside.
The city's idea is that with these bins, they can use a side loader truck and automate/speed up the recycle - yard waste - garbage collection. And after having this same sort of system in Kelowna for years it did make our life easier.

The view inside the fence.
The gap will get a 90o lattice put in when it gets warm enough to use the wood steamer outdoors again. The high posts in front will get a lattice header shortly to stop deer jumping the fence. The posts on the left were supposed to be the same height but we didn't get the message to builder before he cut them off. Come spring we will extend them and put more lattice for a place for the hydrangea to grow into.

Our raised garden bed. It is tarped for winter so the asparagus doesn't get too wet and die. The rebar is used to hold up the deer fencing we put in around the lily beds.

Finished job!
40 feet square of shiny pavers. Spaced slightly so water will run through and not run off.

Not sure this is an optimal arrangement for the bins, but there they are.
The crew told us that this is the second job they have done to accommodate these new bins. Could be an up and coming thing in Courtenay/Comox.
