We had a 'several hour' power outage last week, so we dug out the emergency radio to try to hear what the problem was. That is the green thing in the bottom of the picture. It is a flash light, radio, clock, crank charger for itself and cell phones, and beer bottle opener. (You never know when you will need one of those.)

Now Shadow had never heard sound coming from anything other that the TV or the stereo. Up to 2 seconds before the shutter clicked he examined/sniffed/nosed this thing.

A short while after this picture, we decided to hook up our generator so we could keep the fridge cold and have some lights as it was getting dark. You just know the power came back on as we were starting the generator!

This is our house three days after our first good snow of the winter.

We did an insulation upgrade last summer by having loose fiberglass blown in to R50 (I think that is 12 inches). This covered most of the ducts used by the heat pump, all of which are in the attic.

Before, after three days we would not have had this much snow left even after a full day and particularly after three days with light rain.

This is the north side of our roof, and the pictures below are of the south side of the neighbours' roofs. Our south side looks just like the north side, you just can't get a good picture of it because of the backyard is 15 feet lower elevation.

This is a house across the street and two to the left, and its roof looks much like ours use to before our insulation upgrade.

This is the house directly across the street.

You have to wonder how much insulation there is in their attic.
